GamesValheimValheim world modifiers

World modifiers let you make Valheim easier, harder or more relaxed. They are saved inside the world, so the simplest time to set them is before a new world is made.

Set them on the server

  1. Stop the server in the panel .
  2. On the Startup tab, find the modifier, preset or extra launch arguments field.
  3. Enter the options using the startup format, for example:
-preset hard -modifier raids none -modifier portals casual -setkey nomap
  1. Start the server. In game, press F2 to see which modifiers are active.

Names and values are case-sensitive and must stay in English. If your Startup tab has no field for them, open a ticket and we will tell you where they go for your server.

Presets

A preset sets several modifiers at once. It is applied first, and any -modifier you add after it overrides that part.

PresetWhat you get
normalStandard Valheim
casualEasier fights, light death penalty, more resources, fewer raids, ores through portals
easyA bit easier across the board
hardHarder fights and death penalty
hardcoreVery hard, and you lose items for good on death
immersiveNo map, harder portals, fewer raids
hammerBuilding costs nothing

Change an existing world

Startup modifiers are reliable on a new world. On a world that already exists, the values saved in its .fwl or .fwl2 file can win. Two ways to change them:

  • In game: with the Server Devcommands mod on the server and your PC (see mods) and admin rights (see admin), press F5 and run setworldmodifier combat hard or setworldpreset casual. setworldpreset default puts everything back to normal.
  • From single player: download the world, change its modifiers in the game’s world settings, and upload it again as shown in Valheim worlds.

Back up the world before either.
