GamesTerrariaCommands, updates and server types

Type these in the Console tab of your server in the panel , without a slash. They work on vanilla and tModLoader servers. TShock has its own, larger set; see TShock admin.

Bans are saved in banlist.txt in the server folder. To unban someone on vanilla, remove their line from that file while the server is stopped. See Banning / Unbanning.

A password set with the password command is lost on restart. To keep one, use the Startup tab; see Using a server password.

Keep the server updated

When Terraria or tModLoader updates, players on the new version cannot join an old server.

  1. Stop the server and make a backup in the Backups tab.
  2. Open Settings and press Reinstall Server. This replaces the game files only; worlds in saves/Worlds and your mods stay.
  3. Start the server and check the version in the Console.

If players are still on an older version, they need to update their game too. Server and players must match.

Vanilla, tModLoader or TShock

Server typeUse it for
VanillaThe normal game with no changes
tModLoaderPlaying with mods. Every player also needs tModLoader and the same mods
TShockVanilla gameplay with admin tools: permissions, region protection, server-side characters and plugins

Worlds made on vanilla also load on TShock and tModLoader. A world played with mods may not load correctly on vanilla again, so back it up before switching. If you cannot change the server type yourself in the panel, open a ticket.
