A hybrid server tries to run both mods and plugins at the same time. It sounds ideal, but mods and plugins are built for different systems, so problems are common.
⚠️
Hybrid servers are not officially recommended. Expect crashes, odd behavior, and plugins that do not work with modded content. Some older projects also had serious security flaws, so research any hybrid before using it.
Better alternatives
- Want plugin features? Use Paper with plugins.
- Want mods? Use Fabric, Forge or NeoForge with server-side mods, see Installing Mods.
- Want both for different purposes? Run two servers behind a proxy, see Velocity.
If you still want a hybrid
- Pick a hybrid that is actively maintained and supports your Minecraft version. Check recent security reports.
- Make a backup of your server.
- Stop the server, rename your current
server.jarto something else (for exampleserver-old.jar), and upload the hybrid jar asserver.jar. See File Manager. - Start the server and check the console for errors.
- Put plugins in
pluginsand mods inmods. Players need the matching mods on their game.
Keep backups, update everything regularly, and test each new plugin or mod alone before adding more.
