Many owners see the memory figure in the panel climb close to the limit and worry. Usually it is nothing.
Why the number looks high
The panel shows how much memory Java has reserved, not how much is truly needed. Java holds on to memory and clears it later in a process called garbage collection. Some plugins and mods also grab as much as they can. A high number alone does not mean you need a bigger plan.
What to check instead
- Does the server lag or crash? If not, it is fine.
- Run
spark health --memoryin the console to see real heap use. Paper includes Spark. See Spark. - On Purpur,
/rambarshows a live bar. It fills and empties constantly, which is normal.
When to worry
If memory stays full and the server crashes, see Out of Memory Errors.
Reduce usage
Lower view distance, trim heavy plugins and pre-generate worlds. See Optimization.
