Running a ServerOnline Mode Explained

online-mode decides whether your server checks every player’s Minecraft account with Mojang.

  • true (default): only players with a legitimate account can join. Usernames and skins are verified.
  • false: no verification. Anyone can join with any name, including pretending to be another player.

Change it

  1. Stop the server and open server.properties in the Files tab.
  2. Set online-mode=true or online-mode=false.
  3. Save and start the server.
⚠️

With online-mode=false, a stranger can join as your operator’s username and take control. If you must use it, add an authentication plugin and a whitelist. ATBP does not provide support for running cracked servers.

Proxies

Servers behind Velocity or BungeeCord must have online-mode=false, because the proxy does the checking instead. See Velocity and Waterfall. Keep the backend servers private so nobody bypasses the proxy.
